Dr. Uma Ramakrishnan is an Indian molecular ecologist. Since 2005, she has worked in the National Center for Biological Sciences (NCBS). She combines molecular methods with DNA computing and analysis technology to reveal the process driving mammalian genetic variation patterns, with the goal of studying the chronicle of the population in South Asia and protecting mammals threatened by the survival of the Indian continent. At present, she have cooperated with field teams across the country to provide protection projects for species such as tigers, Indian wildcats, leopards and macaques. She won the outstanding scientist award of the Department of Atomic Energy and was elected as an academician of the Indian National Science Academy in 2019.
